Almost A Week, But Police Report Yet?

Card image cap

Location: Illinois

This past Sunday, my dog and I were the victims of a traffic accident that involved being rear ended, then T-d in a possible high speed chase, hit and run. I was sitting at a red light when a driver rear ended me, pushing me over a concrete median where my front end collided with a street sign that was implanted in said median. My back end then swung into oncoming traffic where it collided with another car who hit it coming from that direction. The first car that hit me was apprehended six blocks from where she impacted me. My dog and I were extracted from my car, which had started smoking. While waiting for the ambulance, I heard some people talking about how fast the car had been going. The off duty firefighter that was holding my head still said fast. The paramedic that came running from the ambulance that pulled up, having heard the conversation at that point said she had heard from dispatch that it had been 50mph, mind you at the point where the accident took place the speed limit was 30mph and had been for about a mile. I was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. While there I had a CT scan and multiple X-rays. I walked out of there with a fractured arm and bruised ribs, and thankfully that was all. Less than 24 hours after it happened, I started hearing from friends around town that it had been a high speed chase. I heard from the officer over the case Monday evening and he only asked me for my POV on the accident. It took until Thursday before I heard back and that was only after I had placed a couple calls and found out that it was county handling everything, not city. I asked for a copy of thr report for my insurance, but he stated that he hadn't finished writing it yet? I called on Friday to ask yet again and was told that he still hadn't finished writing it. When I asked him what had happened, he merely said that the woman who hit me claimed she doesn't remember anything that happened from the blinking lights until she came to 6 blocks from where she hit me. I need that police report before my insurance will do anything. Meantime I am without a vehicle and have piling medical bills. I don't know what to do next at this point because I couldn't get ANY information from the cop, not even the other driver's insurance info. Any advice would be welcomed.

Car is totaled, all my airbags deployed, and my dog is bruised and hasn't left my side since, but otherwise ok.
