An Np Brushed Off Concerns About A Displaced Iud And I Ended Up Pregnant. Is There Anything I Can Do?

I'm a (21f) from Location: California, and I've had an IUD, which worked for almost a year. In the spring, I noticed that the strings felt abnormally long, enough for it to be noticeable and uncomfortable (a sign that it might have moved). I messaged my OBGYN, and they said I should get it checked to make sure it is in the right place and so that it's still effective. I was away at college at the time, so I made an appointment for when I got back, and in the meantime was being extremely careful with my boyfriend and using other protection so that we wouldn't end up in this situation.

When I went in, my regular doctor was not available, so they gave me an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner (NP). When she examined me, she said that the "strings were definitely long" and that it was likely that the IUD had shifted down a bit, since "no one usually leaves the strings that long" when it's placed. She said she could see why it was uncomfortable and then just TRIMMED THE STRINGS. When I asked her if it had moved or if it was still effective (since my bf was coming to town the next day), she told me that "it had probably moved down a bit but SHOULD STILL WORK" and sent me on my way. She never did an ultrasound to confirm.

That exact week I was seen is the week that I conceived, and I found out a few weeks later that I was pregnant. I was completely distraught and freaking out since, for months, I had been so careful until I could make sure that my IUD was working. I had been regularly checking to make sure it was in the right place since I got it, and made the appointment when I was worried it wasn't.

I was out of town when I found out, so I went to Planned Parenthood (PP) the next day to confirm, and also to make sure it wasn't ectopic since there is a higher risk when you get pregnant with an IUD.

The doctor at PP did an ultrasound and found that my IUD was sitting low in my uterus rather than where it should have been, which she said "likely caused it to be ineffective". She also said that the other doctor should have given me an ultrasound to confirm placement (where we would have seen it was out of place), and that it's what she would do for any patient with a similar concern, and with how long the strings had suddenly become.

When I came back, I was able to see my regular OBGYN who works at the same practice as the NP. This other doctor didn't say the NP "should have" done an ultrasound, but asked, "And there was no ultrasound done?" and when I said no, she looked away but had a visible "wtf" expression on her face. Either way, both doctors were confused why I hadn't been given an ultrasound to check its placement before I was told it was still effective.

This whole situation has caused me so much pain and suffering both physically and emotionally. After I found out, I was so depressed and anxious I barely left the house for 3 weeks. I spent every day crying multiple times a day, and got completely disconnected from the world around me. With either decision I made, I felt like this situation had completely ruined my life, and I would now have to choose to live with extreme guilt, or have to drop out of college (I wouldn't graduate before my due date) and give up on my dreams of going into the medical field in the unit I wanted to work in (which shifts are really incompatible with caring for a child).

I am reaching out for advice because some people have told me I should sue for negligence or malpractice, but idk if I would even have a case, let alone win one. This whole situation has caused a lot of pain and suffering, but I don't know if it's worth the time or money. At the same time, I also don't want another woman to potentially be ignored and end up in the same situation I'm in. Any advice?
