Basement Flooded 12 Hrs After Plumber Put In A New Sump Pump, Do I Have A Case?
Hello all, need some advice on my situation.
I hired a plumber to replace my sump pump while we were getting heavy rain. Younger guy on his team comes over and puts it in. I wake up the next morning and the basement carpet is saturated. I look into the pit and the power cord is wrapped around the on/off trigger so the sump pump wasn’t turning on (I have video documenting this). The plumber comes over and says he will cover the restoration cost.
A week later he calls me and asks if I looked into the pit after they installed it. I told him his plumber never showed me his completed work and I did look into it to after he left. He claimed when they left, the cord wasn’t wrapped around the trigger and since I looked into the pit, I was at fault and he will no longer cover the restoration cost. I only opened the lid once a few inches and think that is a BS excuse. I told him even if that was the case, the cord wasn’t secured properly if opening the lid once caused that, and as a homeowner I need to be able to open the lid for maintenance and to monitor water levels during heavy rain storms.
I have receipts for the restoration work totaling around $800 and videos documenting the restoration process. Do I have a case in small claims court to get reimbursed the cost to restore my basement?
