Been Out On Bond For Over A Year For A Misdemeanor Hit-and-run In Georgia. What Should I Expect?
Location: Georgia
I’m 19 years old, and I was arrested in October 2025 for a misdemeanor hit-and-run in Clayton County, Georgia when i was 18 .
The accident involved minor damage to another vehicle, and nobody was injured. I left the scene but returned about an hour later. I was arrested that same day and bonded out that night.
It’s now been over a year, and I still haven’t received a court date or any updates about my case. From what I’ve seen, my case may have been sent to State Court, but I’m not completely sure what’s happening.
im still checking in for bail every month
This is my first time dealing with anything like this, and I’m trying to figure out what to expect. I’m planning on getting a lawyer, but I have a few questions.
Is it normal to be out on bond for over a year without a court date?
Could I realistically face jail time for a misdemeanor hit-and-run with no injuries?
Is it possible to get probation, fines, or a reduced charge instead?
Should I hire a lawyer now or wait until I receive a court date?
Does the victim have to appear in court for the case to move forward?
Has anyone dealt with a similar case in Georgia? What was your outcome?
I’m not trying to avoid responsibility. I just want to understand what could happen and what steps I should take next. Any advice would be appreciated. pls help
