Bought A Car And Now The Seller Is Saying My Cashier's Check Wont Deposit.

Location: Michigan

Edit 2: the issue has been resolved, thabk you all for your advice and help. Thankfully ill get to get some sleep before 1 AM tonight. Peace and love <3

Today I went to purchase a vehicle for 2700 dollars. I confirmed they were comfortable with a cashiers check, as they are certified funds. I brought the check and exchanged that for the vehicle and title. all good so far

a few hours later my phone is blowing up with the seller concerned that the check isn't valid as the ATM would not accept the check, and after attempting to deposit a 3rd time the machine took the check and did not add any funds to their account. obviously this is not ideal, as I dont want them to be out the vehicle and the money

worth note, the sale happened in public at a grocery store with my wife present, and I confirmed that the sellers name was correct with the seller.

my question is this: what obligation do I have going forward to ensure that they get their money or to respond to the seller? is this some kind of elaborate scam? what happens to those funds if they go unclaimed?

Edit 1: not an update on the situation as of this moment (my bank is not open quite yet) but I just wanted to thank you all for your help and advice, I had a hard time sleeping last night and you guys all gave me some peace of mind. Really appreciate you all, and this community <3. Will update later today if there's any change.
