Can I Get Some Advise On A Summons I Got
This is kind of a weird one. Location: Vermont, US. Was summoned yesterday in a civil case. Being sued because a landlord thinks I live at a residence that the tenent is not allowed to sublet.
Several months ago I did sign a rental agreement with this tenet not knowing they couldn’t sublet, but I did not end of living there due to unrelated reasons. So this tenent is being evicted, which is what the civil case is about, because they are not allowed to sublet, but I am also being sued and my rental agreement with the tenent is being used as evidence (among some other things).
In the statement of facts the plaintiff claims I live there, citing this agreement that I signed but did not actually follow through on. In the rental agreement I also listed my kids and they also also listed as defendants. What are my next best steps. As far as I can tell, the three counts are eviction and I can’t be evicted from somewhere I don’t live. I’ll respond to the summons but what else should I expect.
