Can I Teach With A Sealed Felony?
Location: Florida
I have a felony for grand theft (barely over $300) from when I was 18. It was sealed. I’ve worked at 3 schools since then & all of them required a level 2 background check. There has never been an issue.
A few months ago, a job offer was revoked after my background check came back. They informed me they cannot hire me due to Florida law, but I’m not understanding how I’ve went through at least 7 background checks prior to this without any problems.
There was a weird issue a few months ago: my public background check was wrong out of nowhere. Another job denied me over my background check & sent back a copy with ONE thing on it. Not my felony for grand theft, but “felony registration”. This shouldn’t be on a background check at all & when I spoke to my attorney from 2018, he was confused as well.
I was able to get ahold of the FDLE & fix that problem. But I’m still confused as to why my sealed felony is suddenly an issue with background checks?
What can I do?
