Changing Child’s First Name After Being Forced To Name Them Something I Dislike
Location: CT
I gave birth to my son 6 months ago and I absolutely cannot stand his name. My husband pressured me to name him after his father, we live with his parents. He told me that if I did not that our marriage would suffer and that he would no longer be a partner to me, essentially doing the bare minimum. Under pressure, I caved and gave my child the name he wanted. I should also note my son was a nicu baby. I received a call ten days into the nicu stay from the clerk saying we had to name our son or else he would be called “babyboy” on the social security card and birth certificate.
I moved from another country to Connecticut, so I don’t have any family here to back me up. I also have a toddler so I did not have anywhere to go which is why I complied. I really hate my son’s name, especially since my father in law isn’t a really good person and I have had issues ever since I moved here with my husband’s family!
In these situations does a judge force the parents to come to a joint agreement? I just want a name that we can both agree on because it is just not fair! Would the judge just force me to keep my son’s name?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry for any grammar mistakes.
