Elderly Mother Being Intimidated By A Tree Trimmer
My 86 year old mother hired a company to cut trees in her backyard. They gave an invoice of 8500 which my mother signed. Later the owner (large woman) visited my mother pressuring her to pay another 5K but agreeing to 3000 more. They altered the original invoice by adding 2500 to it. And putting the 9K they received. The cashier check was supposed to be written out to the name of owner and not the company.
My mom was afraid of this woman who was just talking until she got my mom to agree in order for her to leave. I did have a police officer talk to my mom and convince her not to send the check.
The next day the woman drove an hour from her residence to my mom’s to try to collect the money. We were then forced to call the police again. She is now saying she is going to sue.
I’ve filed a report for elder fraud with FTC and was sent information. I also opened one with APS in her state.
My mom is on a limited income from Social security.
Where else do I need to file to help my mom?
The officer also mentioned to me that the work that was done was not even completed and left all the wood behind for my mother to get rid of.
Do we need to have another tree company come and look over the work done? And the mess left behind? In case we need an opinion in court?
Location:
I am in Virginia but my mom is in Utah.
