Ex Left His Gun On The Floor Around 6 Y/o And 4 Y/o

I dropped my 4- and 6-year-old off at their dad’s today.

My daughter needed to use the bathroom and she wanted me to take her, so he said I could go inside and said the only working on is the one his his bedroom. I walked her in and when I came out I saw he had his handgun sitting on the floor.

I brought it up and we went back and forth about it because he kept saying it was unloaded, so it was fine. I kept telling him that wasn’t the point. After pushing the issue, he finally put it in his closet.

He’s also actively renovating. There’s construction dust and debris throughout, exposed drywall, insulation/fiberglass pieces, tools and materials out, and basically no furniture besides a mattress and two folding chairs.

There have also been issues with the car seats being installed incorrectly in the past.
Every safety concern I bring up gets brushed off as me being overprotective or ridiculous.

At this point in time, I honestly don’t feel like he’s being a very safe parent and I don’t know what steps I can take until he resolves this. Will I get in trouble if I withhold his time? Do I need to contact a lawyer? Do I need to file for something? I don’t know what to do but my main concern is the fact that now he’s actively leaving his weapon out on the floor.

We’ve been divorced for 3 years. He only has them Mondays from 1230-7. However things he’s done in the past, he lost my (then 2 year old) while hiking. Thankfully found her. No she didn’t wander off. She just stopped while he kept walking.

He took off all of his second story window screens off and kept the windows open to get “fresh air” and didn’t like the view with the screen on, through the day.

My youngest got her neck wrapped around blind cords because he was letting her play with them. Came back with bruising on her neck from the cord.

He’s not very attentive and when I tell him to please keep a better eye on them he calls me a helicopter mom. and I’m honestly very fearful of my children’s safety with him.
