Ex Wife Claiming $375k Against Late Husband’s Estate For Years Of Missed Marital Alimony & Life Insurance

Location: Florida, USA

edit to add: I live in CA, USA and Mother lives in CA as well. We do not talk, that is just a coincidence. Everyone was in FL when divorce occurred and until I was 18.

My father died this earlier year & I am the sole beneficiary. Parents divorced in 2011 and there was only a MSA, no child support order. The rules of the support was until wife died, husband died, or wife remarried. Father quit paying alimony in 2020, after retirement. Did not go to court and get any termination, just quit paying. Short story is he was in a lawsuit trying to get a large (>millions) amount of money for a business he owned, and word of mouth was that he said he’d pay her back when he won the lawsuit (most likely genuinely meant it since he was relatively honest). Covid made the lawsuit take forever and it was ongoing when he died.

Come to find out he never had a policy with her as the beneficiary. He had 1 policy on himself and the sole beneficiary was another close family member.

Now mother has filed a claim for 400k ( life insurance required by marital decree + 6 years of missed alimony support ).

Everything he had with a will pour over was put into a trust with me (adult, but not the executor) as the sole beneficiary. Most of the money in the trust is in real estate, with very little liquid rn. All the real estate was listed as non marital property in the decree but unsure how that stands now.

There is an estate/trust attorney working on this

I don’t want her to get a single dime but understand she may be entitled to some money. She broke the rules of the decree in a way because she had multiple incidents of “molest and harassing” with stalking, murder threats to us, and harassment at my house but that was 10 years ago. But none of that was ever an official no contact order or anything, since 50/50 custody was technically the contract until I turned 18. Please help!! She abandoned me 13 years ago but comes out of the wood works once he passed :(

Is there any rules or exceptions that would invalidate her claim? What are the legal ramifications for the estate since there was NO life insurance ever even though it was court ordered? Is she entitled to that full amount cash? I obviously can’t buy it now! Their marriage was 18 years, not sure if there is a limit of alimony but the decree did say until death or remarriage ????

Also, she now lives in a mansion with my aunt, and doesn’t work. She has been supported and taken care of there for 5+ years now.

Guys please quit calling me a bad person I was a child when all this happened and it’s not my fault someone else didn’t buy life insurance. I’m not trying to pull an immoral quick one thats why I asked legal advice and not ULPT
