Grandmother Wants To Take Me To Court
Hi! I'm 28M and looking for advice. So I've lived with my grandmother for over 10 years, my father for 2, and my mother the rest of my life. No one believes I can make it alone because of my adrenal insufficiency, but this isn't about that.
My grandmother might be looking to take me to court for guardianship.
So it all started yesterday. I had enough of her berating me, so I finally said no. Took it better than I thought, but because I held my own, she started weaponizing my mother's words and said that they'd take me to court before I ever dared to leave for my own life. I've spoken to my endocrinologist, he thinks I can manage on my own, but she doesn't care.
I just need to know what to do about this? She claimed that since I'm not a part of the family (what she's actually meaning is compliant), I shouldn't have a phone and actually took it away. It's on her plan, not my phone so that part's fairish. But I thought about leaving but even then, I don't have a device to call for help or anything and she's trying to shrink down my independence by saying "You can only eat if you ask permission," to which I ignore because yeah, I'm an adult.
Asides from that, if it helps, I have static encephalopathy, a non-progressive brain disorder that doesn't get worse over time. I am not under a guardianship. I can clothe, bathe, do laundry, cook for myself, etc. I am under the handicap umbrella but it's nothing seriously physically limiting. I have hypopituitarism and adrenal insufficiency, which makes me scared to just leave without a phone, even with a bag of medications.
Am I stuck?
