Gym Wont Let Me Cancel, T&cs Do Not Have A Cancelation Policy

Location: East Texas

As the title suggests, my gym will not let me cancel unless I provide the below mentioned reasons/u documentation, and $99. I asked them to send me where in our contract it mentions the cancelation policy, and they sent me the terms and agreements policy I signed, which unless I am overlooking it, does not mention a cancelation policy. What can I do? Below is their response, and the entire Terms & Conditions they sent to me.

Response:

We're sorry to hear you could be leaving us! I checked your account and it looks like you signed up for our 12-Month agreement on 7/13/2026. Because you are still under contract until 7/13/2027, there are 2 steps that will need to be completed before an early cancellation is processed.

1.) You must provide the club proof of relocation more than 15 miles away, or medical documentation prohibiting exercise.

2.) Once documentation has been received by [gym name] via email, a $99 cancellation fee would then be processed to break the contract and terminate the agreement.

If you do not meet these requirements, you are more than welcome to have a family member, friend or coworker take over the remainder of the membership term. Let us know if you have any questions!

Gym Response and Terms & Agreements

Update: Unless there is another way of getting out of the membership, I guess I will stick it out or try to find someone who wants to take over the rest of the term. I do not plan on canceling my card or anything like that. I feel that would be scummy of me!
