Hit Pedestrian With Car
This evening, around 8pm, I hit a pedestrian with my car. I was turning left and didn't see her until she was on my car. I immediately got out, got her off the road with some witnesses, and called 911. An ambulance came and checked her out, and took her to the hospital. She was walking, talking, and crying before being taken to the hospital.
I was hit with a careless driving ticket which summons me to court in a couple of months.
The cop later called me and updated me that the girl was fine and was getting an x-ray at the hospital as a precaution.
I feel absolutely terrible. sorrow, guilt, shame, and embarrassment.
I, not thinking anything of it, mentioned the dashcam footage to the cop. I now received the email with a link to upload the evidence, but I haven't uploaded it yet.
I have already reached out to a couple of lawyers with regards to my court date. the cop was reassuring about it letting me know usually these things get reduced, like this happened to him and he was fine.
but still what happens next? i go to court, get hit with some tickets, insurance goes up, but now... is it likely she will press charges considering she is okay? am I screwed? has anyone dealt with this and have any advice/insight, or even just a story I can relate to?
