How Do I Safely Leave My Abusive Household With My Dogs?
im 18 living in an emotionally and mentally abusive household. i have two dogs. my mom bought them for me when i was a minor as a gift. whenever i try to move out of my house, my mother threatens to get rid of my dogs. (she could be bluffing, but she and my brother also beat them to the point where one of them won’t even be in the same room as them, so i can’t leave them either) but they’re my dogs. they’re microchipped in my name, and i have a certificate from my county that i both got recently. if i were to take the dogs and run away from home (i have a place to go, don’t worry), would she be allowed to call the police on me for stolen property since she’s the one who bought the dogs? i also have multiple text evidence of her saying that they’re MY dogs. i want to leave home, but i can’t leave them behind. i have someplace that ill be able to move into as soon as i leave, as well. i just need to know if there is legal ground for her to call the police on me, and for the police to take back the dogs. she has called the police on my siblings for less. i don’t wanna deal with that. i need advice.
