I Was Physically Assaulted By A Minor At My Apartment Complex. What Are My Options?
Location: Nevada
Going to try and give the short cliff notes version while still including all important details.
A couple weeks ago I was walking through my apartment complex when a group of minors started talking to me, I had my earbuds in so I couldn’t hear them, when one of them physically put his hands on me to stop me from walking, I removed my earbuds as he proceeded to talk to me, I sternly told him to not touch me, as I walked away he started aggressively cussing me out. I took a picture of him to report him to the apartment security that he’s putting his hands on people, when he saw that I took a photo of him he then proceeded to throw a relatively large rock at me which hit my leg and left a visible scrape. I called the cops and the minor was charged with battery, I called up on the case for an update and was told that a citation was listed, but I’m not sure what happens with that.
I notified the apartment and the supervisor told me that they have had problems with this group of kids before, and that a 3-day eviction notice could be on the table. I then ask for open communication regarding what will happen because I want to know whether or not I’ll resign my lease as I don’t want to live in the same complex as someone who threw a rock at me, she agrees to the communication. I am told a few days later after asking for an update that the situation was addressed but that they can’t tell me what the disciplinary action was. I assumed that maybe an eviction notice was given and that they just couldn’t tell me, however just yesterday I see that same minor with his friends walking around the complex again.
What is my best course of action here? It’s one of those situations where yes, my injures were minor but it’s the thought of how bad it could’ve been that really makes me feel uneasy. The rock hit my leg but it could’ve hit my head and did horrific damage. This is clearly a very violent and mentally unwell individual if he is so quick and willing to throw a rock at someone for quite literally no reason. Would I be able to file some sort of protective or restraining order? I want to protect myself as best as possible if there were to be another incident.
