In-laws Doing Work On Our House And Suddenly Said They Won’t Finish It. Could I Be Subject To A Lien On My House?

Location: Oklahoma.

My in laws have been doing work on our house. We had plumbing issues in both bathrooms. About 5 months ago they started this work with contractors they hired. The master bath is 99.9% finished. Just missing one drawer and some handles for the cabinets. As such, a week ago they ripped out the guest bathroom and so far a tub and tile has been installed. 3 days later they ripped out all cabinets in laundry room (this was something we were not planning on doing but they said they wanted to make the space more workable for us).

Long story short, some issues between my husband and his parents led to a falling out. They now have said they are stopping all work unless we sign an agreement saying if we ever sell the house, we agree to give them all equity that came from the updates they did on the house to “protect their investment”.

Obviously we are not signing this. This work was always presented as a gift to us and now they are positioning it as an investment for themselves. Their names are not on our home.

My concern is since they are canceling the rest of the work which has already been started, if the contractors decide to put a lien on my home, who is responsible? We did not hire these contractors, nor did we sign any contract with them. Our names are not on any agreement/contract in any form, nor have we paid anything, everything has been paid for by my in-laws. But if a lien is put on our home, what do we do?
