Landlord Gives 2 Week Notice Because Someone Can Pay More Than Me

Card image cap

Location: MN. For a little background: I am 23 (F) and live in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment in MN ($1250/ mo) that i previously shared with an old roommate who moved out 10 months ago and this landlord has refused to sign me onto another lease. My full time job is sales which is solely commission and i have a second job to at least even out any potential losses for the month in sales. The last 4 months have been absolutely awful in terms of paychecks and I’ve been late on paying rent twice due to this. I’m always one to be incredibly anxious about being caught up on bills so I’m always trying to pay ahead if i can. I am also currently interviewing for higher paying jobs and am hearing back from one tomorrow. I’ve also applied for rental assistance that has been sent back due to me not having an updated lease which he still refuses to provide.

My landlord texts me today and asks when I’ll have rent for him to which i responded i get paid from both jobs this week (in three days) and can pay it then due to biweekly paychecks. He then tries to suggest me moving to a one bedroom $150 cheaper IN TWO WEEKS which i explained i didn’t think would be worth the hassle of moving especially in such a short amount of time (as i also might be staying a new job ALSO TWO WEEKS FROM NOW) Not to mention any sort of notice to vacate should be given 30-60 day notice (last time i checked). He then responds that he has been keeping my rent at a “lower rate” and has someone who will be paying more and is to move in in two weeks. He keeps actively trying to push me moving to the one bedroom, and i know this situation could be worse such as him kicking me out and not giving me the option to move to a one bedroom and be homeless… please tell me if I am in the wrong for being livid about this?? Not only is it unprofessional to just mention this two weeks before and not give a 30 day notice, but also give my apartment away?? It’s not easy to just up and move especially working two jobs, 7 days a week…
