Location: California. Citadel Roofing and Solar had a contract with me to install a new roof and solar panels. I paid a $500 nonrefundable deposit. Roof went on fine. But when it came to the solar part they started dragging their feet a ton.

We were working with PG&E and you have to do all this paperwork, and have them come out and check the property. For some reason this process took forever. My contract with PGE kept getting cancelled and delayed. I seriously dont understand why.

I also had to get a new electric panel box, and upgrade the power lines (house built in early 60s). This was an additional $18k of work. The first company Citadel sent out and I signed with went under a few months later. The second company, Vine electric was amazing.

Everything was taking forever. When I finally got PGE to sign off, and Vine to set a date to start .... Citadel cancelled on me.

They claimed because Trump started the tariff drama, that they couldn't guarantee the cost of my contract anymore! Like, didnt you guys have all the products already? Not only did they cancel my contract, they told me i would have to pay an additional $1500 for the cancelation. But not to worry, they would start a new contract over with me again and that $1500 would go towards the cost on the new contract. WTF?

I went back and read the contract. It clearly states that if I cancel i gotta pay. Except THEY cancelled.

So I called around and found another company, just across the street, that would start immediately and it would cost pretty much the same.

Citadel kept sending me text messages remind me that I owed them money but I ignored them. I already tried to argue my case to no avail "I didnt cancel this. I wanted to keep you. You cancelled. I dont owe you".

They've now sent me a notice stating it'll go to collections if I dont pay.

How do I deal with this ?
