Mom Gave My Settlement Money To My Aunt For A Cd Account Now She Won't Give The Money Back

I received a $20,000 settlement from a car accident that happened to me in Montana when I was 13. However, the case did not settle until I was 18 and living in Idaho. At the time the settlement was paid, I did not have a bank account, so my mom signed the check over and deposited the money into an account for me. Four years later, I am now finding out that my mom apparently gave this money to my aunt to put into a CD account. From what I understand, the CD is solely in my aunt's name, and my name was never put on the account. My mom may potentially be listed as a beneficiary, but I have no access to the money myself. This past March, my aunt raised our rent from $1,700 to $5,000, which effectively forced us to move out. Since then, she has made no contact with us and will not respond to letters or messages. I am trying to figure out what happened to this money and whether I have any legal right to recover it. The settlement was specifically money awarded to me, and I was already 18 when the settlement was finalized and the check was issued. I never agreed to give the money to my aunt, and I have never had access to the CD. Is there any way for me to recover this money, or is it potentially long gone? If I need to take legal action, what type of attorney should I be looking for?
