My Girlfriend And I Want Custody Of Her Brother.
Location: Arkansas I (27m) and my Girlfriend (22F) want custody of her 11 year old brother. We have been together for a year now and live together. Her brother stays with us every weekend and any night he doesnt have school the next day. He currently lives with his dad and his home life isn't very good. The dad has abused drugs in the past ( no proof he currenty is) and gets reslly angry and "loses control" as the brother calls it. He says it involves alot of screaming and throwing/hitting things bit has never hit him. The trailer they live in is filthy and smelly to the point he has told me he hates being there because of it. His mother is not really in the picture. He has seen her maybe twice in the year ive been around and she is notorious for making plans with him and then ghosting last second and breaking his heart. The child is behind in alot of ways and my Girlfriend and I really try to help as much as possible in the short time we get him weekly, but its not enough. We are wondering what kind of challenges we would face if we fought for custody and hopefully get some advice on what we need to even begin the process. Thanks in advance!
