My Landlord Raised The Rent Through An Addendum That Doesn't Make Any Sense

Card image cap

Location: Colorado.

My landlord sent an addendum in the tenant portal that said it was raising the rent $90. Then a few days later they took it down and replaced it with one that said it was raising the rent $50. The addendum claimed the reason for increasing the rent was:

"Landlord and Residents acknowledge that effective January 1st 2026 separate utilities will no longer be charged."

But then it says:

"Tenant is still responsible for setting up, maintaining and paying for electrical utilities directly with (City I live in) Utilities."

The only separate utilities I pay for are electricity. So, it seems that they are trying to charge me for electricity twice?

The addendum was sent to my portal about a week before February 1st. The addendum said it was going to start February 1st. I do know in Colorado they have to give a 60-day notice before increasing the rent. I didn't sign the addendum because I thought it was a mistake like the first one. However, I received an email today telling me to sign it. I then looked at my bank account and saw that they took out the new rent price despite me NOT signing the addendum. I am going to email them back tomorrow to ask about it. I would just like to know what my options are.

I also don't have a lot of money and can't risk getting evicted. My last landlord tried to evict me for standing up for my tenant rights and I really don't know if it's worth the fight again.
