Not Billed For Solar Panels Until Trying To Sell Our House

Card image cap

Location: Illinois

My wife and I entered an agreement with a company to purchase solar panels in 2022. We had a loan application approved by wanting to be finalized because the solar system had to pass inspection. Well the solar company took to long to fix the issues that were flagged in the inspection so the loan expired. Then between the fixes and new inspection the company went out of business (or so we assumed). After everything was completed we made multiple attempts to contact them with no response.

Fast forward to today and we find out they were purchased (not sure if a merger or through bankruptcy or any other way) by another company who has itself been bought by another company. I'm trying to get our house listed we have finally found the company that owns and process the warranties for the system.

Now that we have contacted them they want to bill us for the panels even though they have not tried contacting us in any way in all of this time. Is there anything we can do in this situation? We will pay for them if we need to but was something we kind of forgot about since it has been about 5 years so a large expense we were not expecting.

Edit: change date from 2021 to 2022
