Paying Child Support While Having Placement Of My Son

Location: Iowa

My son’s mom got pulled over in early February in Nebraska, had meth on her while my son was in the back. DHS obviously got involved and my son got put in their care, his grandpa got guardianship and he lived there. At the time I was living in Iowa, they didn’t give me primary care of my son because his mom has gotten me arrested multiple times for domestic abuse. Which was already dismissed, proven false and answered for, I do NOT have any domestics on my record. My son’s mom dropped child support off me years back and I just paid her rent and helped out with any other support my son needed. When DHS got care of my son, they put me on child support right away. After jumping through all these hurdles to prove that I’m fit enough to care for my son, Nebraska finally gave me placement of him as long as I move to Nebraska. Which I did, I’ve been the primary care giver of him for a month now but I’m STILL paying child support every week. I asked Nebraska child support to get me off, they said it was an Iowa order so there’s nothing they can do. Called Iowa child support and the lady originally said I will have to send her a copy of the placement form, I did and she then said she didn’t have time to look into it but had time to argue with me for 20 mins about how Juvenile and district court orders are different and Iowa and Nebraska laws are different and yeah no shit lady but couldn’t steer me in the right direction. Said my best bet would be to hire a lawyer and they’ll be able to assist me better. Is there anyway I can get took off child support for my son that lives with me or do I really have to cough up yet again even more lawyer money?
