Pennsylvania Monroe County Divorce And How To Raise Money
Location: Pennsylvania. ,I am in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. A little history on my situation. About two years ago, I found out that my spouse had been diverting hundreds of thousands of dollars of income away from her business and mostly into personal accounts, a bank deposit box, and who knows where else. After she told me once again that we were broke, and we were living check to check, I confronted her by saying I had seen her true business records hidden in our master closet a month before. Less than 48 hours later, she planted a gun in my closet coat pocket , called the police (I was still on probation, related to an opioid addiction from prescribed meds that spun out of control and my stupidity attached to it, and I was not charged for the gun), and she also made abuse accusations that removed me from my home of 28 years. I had been married for 12. I was out on the street with nothing. By the time I was able to get to a bank, all the money was gone. My credit cards had been maxed out. Those 48 hours were critical. I was amazed at how the system could be weaponized, and that a process put in place to help people who really needed it was being abused. By the way, I have her business records showing more than $250-300k a year since 2019 that is unreported, how it was liquidated, and amazingly, she even collects public assistance because she reports her income as $29k a year. Looking back, there were hints that didn’t add up, but I trusted her. I know I can send the records to the IRS, but that doesn't help me now. It also will not help my kids if something happens to her and I am still pushed out of their lives. They both have their issues too. The 13-year-old is autistic, and the 12-year-old has ADHD. Their lives have been disrupted enough.
The above was two years ago in June of 2024. This is getting ridiculous. My kids, who I have been barred from seeing without supervision, mostly thanks to the gun, know what really happened, because kids are aware of more than we give them credit for. Also, for the record, I did not have a gun. I never abused her. I never touched her. Finding a lawyer has been futile, so I have been doing it pro se. What I learned is that even if you are technically correct when filing a motion, the court doesn't take it seriously, and at each step I have been denied. She has been selling marital property, and even with online advertisements as evidence, I was denied an injunction. Even when she told the support master she made zero dollars and cents for the last few months, and I then showed them her bank statement with nearly $70k in it as diverted business income, they ruled against me and are taking a majority of my Social Security. Even with that PFA, I can also prove the photos she used in court were faked. She said they were taken six weeks prior, but the date on them, which no one noticed, was two days before the hearing at which they were submitted. I do not understand how with an attorney she can get away with all of this. (rhetorical question)
Each time I walked into an attorney's office, once they heard I was financially strapped, the conversation turned into one where they were trying to push me out the door. There is nearly $1 million in untaxed diverted funds and hundreds of thousands in equity, but I cannot get to any of it. With only a few thousand that I have saved over months and months, what are my options for an attorney? The Bar Association has programs for people like me, but I have home equity, regardless of whether I can access it, and they will not help. Other places like "Monroe Safe" do not return my calls or emails. I cannot borrow, and I am disabled. What are my options regarding this divorce? Am I to lose my entire life's savings because I cannot put together an additional $5k to retain an attorney? Once an attorney gets involved and there is exposure, I believe that this is where there will be vindication and justice. That attorney will be paid in full, too. The home alone has more than 350k in equity. After all the money I have donated over the years. After all the volunteering I have done. Even volunteering at the 9/11 hole for more than five months, which ultimately left me disabled, and if I had never gone, I would be employed and not in this situation, when I need help at 58 years old, no one returns calls.
People get divorced every day. How do they raise money when financing is not possible, and all family members are either dead or broke too. Are there other legal routes that I have not thought of?
