My brother works at Camping World as a salesperson. He is 100% commission. Lately, the boneheaded GM of his store has been pulling 10+ salespeople off the floor several times a week for hours on end to work as lot porters and move around huge travels trailers with forklifts. First thing - none of these salesmen have forklift training or certification, which I believe is an OSHA violation. Secondly, the lot porter position is hourly at Camping World. The GM isn't putting any effort into hiring replacements to make sure the dealership is properly staffed. The salesmen are being forced to work free labor. The GM isn't paying them for this work. They're being pulled off of the sales floor and forced to forego income opportunities under threat of being sent home. The GM is very rude to them and snaps if they bring up any concerns. He says he won't field internet leads to them anymore and will "remember their choices" - he threatens their jobs and accuses them of not being team players.

Is this allowed?? It just seems so wrong, but ChapGPT says dealerships can do this when employees are W-2 and not 1099. That doesn't seem right.

Do these guys have any recourse?
