Received A "notice Of Involuntary Lien"
Location: California
Yesterday I got a notice in the mail that says
"California Government Code Section 27297.5 requires the County Recorder to notify persons against whom an involuntary lien has been recorded.
You are hereby notified that the enclosed document may constitute a lien against your real property."
I have, or thought I had, a court date in February about debt I have with Chase Bank. Why would this be coming now? And how can I figure out what this actually means? It's from a lawyer/debt collector and the title written in by them says "abstract of judgement". What does that mean? It says it was issued on 9/22/26 (arrived yesterday, Nov 3) and It says a stay of enforcement has not been ordered by the court... Is this just a document they want to have ready if the judge lets them put a lein on my bank account? I don't own a home or car so other than seizing my checking account that has much less than what I own them in it, I'm not sure what would happen.
I already have deals worked out with two other creditors and was hoping by going to court for this one that I might get the amount I owe Chase thrown out or at least significantly decreased. I'm trying to climb out of a hole after the pandemic, cross-country move, and a 19-year-relationship ending where I got nothing because we hadn't been married. Thanks in advance for helping me understand what's going on with this document / notice, I'm a bit freaked out.
