What To Send To Ex-husband Who Hasn't Fulfilled Divorce Settlement

Card image cap

Location: Alabama

My ex-husband and I agreed to a divorce settlement last year. As part of the settlement, he was supposed to pay me $25,000. He paid the first 10% in the first 30 days (as required by the contract), then hasn't paid anything since. The settlement gave him 1 year to pay the remainder. Since then, the green card I sponsored him for has expired and he has had to move back to the UK (I assume, I'm not sure how to confirm).

I would like to pursue whatever assets he has here first before filing to seize his assets in the UK. I do not know his address at this point. Our divorce decree specifically states: "Should the plaintiff incur any costs in collecting said sum from the Defendant, the Defendant shall be required to reimburse the Plaintiff for all costs and fees incurred."

My lawyer told me that if he fails to fulfill his side of the divorce decree, I need to try to contact him myself before getting her involved. Does anyone have language I can use for this? I don't really know what to say. I have a feeling "Hey *hole, your bills are due" isn't going to cut it.
