Reporting To Njdol?
Location: New Jersey
Hey guys! So I was recently hired as a barista at a bobo shop, however, there are some violations I have seen. Firstly, I noticed that I was gonna be paid only $5 per hour for the training, which was 20 hours in total. They did told me during the interview, so I assumed I was going to be just shadowing or someone being there with me until I’m done with training. In addition, it was mandatory in order to be officially hired, however, they barely trained me and I was just doing the work and struggling by myself. They also had me sign an agreement regarding the training, however, under NJ law, that agreement seems to be a violation, including the training pay since it was a benefit towards the business. Also, I am thinking of leaving the job because it’s very toxic, and I’m scolded for making a mistake even tho it’s only been a week of working there. If I leave before completing the 80 hours, in the employment agreement, it states they will not pay me the last paycheck to me, or would they not pay me if I don’t give them a proper two weeks notices, however, under the NJ, it seems like that’s a violation as employer are required to pay for me the hours I worked successfully and to me, it seems like a retaliation almost me leaving early. Lastly, I’m also on a 60 days probation from the day I am hired, so they can easily just let go of me if my performance doesn’t improve fast enough. What should I do?
