Screwed Up Selling A Truck.

Card image cap

Location: Wisconsin, USA

Hey everyone,

I sold my crappy old Ford F-150 and did not make a bill of sale (not required in wisconsin) and also forgot to take the plates off. All I did was sign and date the back of the title, and handed it over. That is how it's been for me every time I've bought a car, so I didn't think much of it. Well, the guy never registered it, and now I've received $200 in parking tickets over the mail.

The city is saying it's on me to pay these tickets because it's in my name, and I'm terrified something worse will happen that I'll be responsible for.

The next steps I'm planning on taking are reporting the sale to the DMV, (supposed to be done within 30 days of selling apparently, but I had no idea) and then going in person and canceling the plates.

I have a phone call court date coming soon to try and dispute these tickets, which hopefully goes well, but what can I do to make this jerk register the truck and make it not a liability to me any longer?

Please don't be too harsh on me, this was the first car I sold, but I still should have known better. Thank you.
