Seamstress Ruined My Wedding Dress

Card image cap

Location: Quebec, Canada

My wedding is one week away. I picked up my dress from a seamstress today and things went awry. Her shop reeked of cigarettes and when I left both my dresses I had left her smell like she was smoking a pack a day and blowing her smoke on them. I inquired for rush dry cleaning specialized for mikado gowns and it’s min 300, could be more.

Do I have any legal recourse? We didn’t have any contracts signed. But she is a registered business and should not be smoking indoors at her business, nor ruining peoples garments with her cigarette smoke. ????

Aside from the horrid smell, she screamed at me for 5 minutes and became very aggressive. All because I called her mid week this week to confirm the dress would be ready as the other times I arrived it was not ready and she never called to let me know. I offered to take it elsewhere if her machine still didn’t work or if she didn’t think she had the time. She said no one has ever asked her that or “threatened” to take their gown somewhere else. She said I hurt her. She yelled at me to speak her language(though she understood me all the other times I spoke in English before she got mad at me) it was so bad to the point I had to leave and cry in the hallway. She apologized after but it was too little too late. I’m shook by the whole experience.
