Suing For Honor (and Of Course Money) Tenant/landlord Issue

Location: Summerville SC

The rundown Is - we stayed at this apartment complex for a full year. Renewal came, and they didn't find us or know about it until I went to ask the (pregnant at the time) agent. She couldn't find my family in her system to renew, so she scheduled us before juneteenth to "reapply." As she did her stuff, she then told US a lower price ($200 difference) OUT OF HER OWN ACCORD and signed off on it on our copy with the price scratched out and initialed.

Move forward to when MANAGEMENT saw when I asked why our price hadn't gone down. So she tries to scramble for the original copy the agent made, who is now on maternity leave (of course) and when she finds it against our copy, it doesn't have the prices changed, but it also doesn't have our socials (all 5 of us, kids included) and it was found as she said with the PREVIOUS TENANT'S paperwork. She states her agent would never do such a thing and this is now a matter of her insinuating we changed the prices to make it cheaper for ourselves. The agent gave the 2 BR price for a 3 BR.

I have tried asking for legal help for those with low income, and we don't make enough. I tried finding a lawyer that can service the district, and they want $2500 off rip, which is about the year's worth of money we're having to pay now since the price is at it's "original" 3 BR price. We were referred a lawyer but they were about to charge us a $50 consultation across town just to tell us to file the lawsuit ourselves.

At this time I'm just making a more proactive search for better remote employment, so we can just eventually get out of here if possible, or at least afford a roof over our heads for the time frame. If y'all got some other ideas, I'd love to read them! Or just some poor-people support helps too.
