Unauthorized Use Of Equipment Resulting In Fire Burning Equipment Down Nebraska Usa

Had a “friend” who said I could store equipment on his property while I was getting back on my feet. It was a verbal agreement, no cost for storage, was told “take your time, there’s no rush, it will be here and nothing will happen to it in the meantime”

Well during the meantime, they hooked up the equipment without authorization, took it into the shop for repairs, and was using it for 10 months now… all without permission, all of which WAS depreciating my asset

Last week their tractor started on fire, due to an electrical issue… his fire spread to the round baler on back. It’s now a total loss.

They spoke (before the fire) that they were wanting to buy it. Now they said I’m shit outta luck… they’re paying nothing. I was told they didn’t have insurance on it even though they were running it, I found out that is a lie, and a claim has already been filed.

Yes, I should have been more consistent on checking in on my property… but life was in the way, being caretaker to family members (one has dementia, the other stage 4 cancer) I don’t have much in terms of free time…
