Unprompted Package From Retailer, Do I Have Any Liability Or Obligations?

Card image cap

Location: Colorado

I assume this is consumer law but apologies if not flaired appropriately.

A package was delivered to my house today from a national retailer containing around 20 different products with 3-5x of each for a total of about 70 items.

I’m not sure what the value of the contents is. Very rough ballpark, probably more than $100 and less than $500. Very little resale value, these aren’t really things people buy secondhand market.

The package was addressed to me, name and address.

I did not order this package, nor do I shop at this retailer really at all (irl or online).

There was a packing slip on top of the contents that seem like instructions on how to add the merchandise to their system and to put said merchandise out on the sales floor upon doing so.

I looked up the store number noted on the packing slip and it’s located out of state, in a state I’ve been to once about 20 years ago.

It looks like some kind of stock transfer between stores, but I don’t know why they’d spend the money to transfer a relatively small amount of product between states let alone regions. And regardless, I have no idea how tf it would end up with my name and address on it.
But, here we are and a lot of it is stuff I’d use.

So far all I’ve done is lay everything out just to see what was in there and then put it back in the box.

Who is considered to be the owner of the contents at this point?

Am I obligated to notify the retailer?

Do I face any liability exposure by not notifying them and/or keeping the contents?
