Worked 6 Years As A Remote Va For A Ca-based Employer. Now He's Withholding $4k+ In Wages, Only Sent $164 After I Resigned, And I'm Drowning. What Can I Do?

Hey everyone, I honestly don't know what to do anymore and I'm losing hope. I could really use some advice or guidance.

I worked for six years as a remote virtual assistant for an e-commerce business owner based in California. I'm based in the Philippines.

For the past several months, my pay has been a nightmare. It was constantly delayed, paid incompletely, and I had to constantly beg and follow up just to get scraps. Eventually, my pay for July 16 through September 30 was completely withheld—leaving a total balance of $4,024.46.

I gave six years of my life to this job, waking up at 4 AM, pouring my heart into it, and even draining my personal savings to keep things running when he couldn't pay me. Because of this wage theft, I am now months behind on my rent, and the family members and children I support are in deep jeopardy.

I finally resigned and gave him a deadline until the end of October to pay at least half ($2,000) and set up a signed payment plan for the rest. After repeated begging, he sent me a measly $164. That is a complete insult.

I'm completely drained and done waiting on him. Since he is based in California and I'm overseas, what are my actual options here? Can a California labor lawyer or cross-border agency help me recover my wages? Any advice would mean the world right now.
