What Should I Bring To My Meeting With My Lawyer?
Location: Southern Indiana
I'm seeking full custody of a young child that I am biologically related to, but not the parent of. I've gotten a lawyer, and am looking to find the parents unfit. He says we have pretty open and shut case, as I've had full term care and responsibility of the child in question for over 5 years now.
Our first hearing is in a couple of months, and he requested I make an in person appointment, and mentioned I should bring whatever we needed to go over when I do.
The thing is, when asked to elaborate what exactly he wanted, he simply said "everything."
For those saying to ask again, I'm single and low income and the child's parents are using all their governmental support. It's taking every penny I have to hire this lawyer, and to much correspondence costs me money, and I've already asked to elaborate. He's also more than an hour away from me, as I had to get an out of county lawyer due to conflicts of interests with the parents. I want to make sure I have only relevant paperwork and information well sorted so we can make the best use of our time at our meeting, as I don't get to see him often.
What sort of paperwork is he expecting me to bring? Most of the relevant information we need such as criminal records is available to him. I can craft a general timeline, but does he need things like school records for the children? I plan to bring my DCS paperwork from when the child was initially placed with me, and maybe school records to prove how long he's lived with me, but I'm just not sure entirely what he would expect me to have.
