Will My Company Own My Ip?
I’ve been writing and illustrating a novel in my spare time with the intention to self publish for a few years.
I work in the toy industry and recently got a job at a company after a long career of freelancing. My contract states my job will own anything I create on the equipment they gave me.
My question is in regard to how much claim they would have to my intellectual property if I used my google account on their laptop. I’ve been using Google Docs to write my novel obviously well before my employment with them. I have a personal PC but it’s a pain to switch back and forth.
My job doesn’t involve any type of creative writing but I am an artist. I’ve obviously not made any art or written for the IP on the laptop they provided but it would be nice to connect my google account. My concern is if I did they’d have some sort of claim.
Realistically the chances of it taking off enough for for them to even look into what little profit I may make on it if I do ever finish and publicly release it is slim but I’m still curious.
Thanks in advance for any knowledge/advice on this!
