Hopefully, The Colts Remembered To Pack Their Newfound Defense

Toiletries? Check. Clothes? Check. Identification? Check. There are a few travel essentials any time one leaves home for a trip. Going overseas can heighten the stress to ensure everything is in the suitcase before walking out the door because although you can probably pick up toothpaste at your final destination, doing so is a pain. The Indianapolis Colts won’t have the luxury of “picking up” a defense in London, so they better make sure the one we saw on Sunday came with them.

Yes. That specific one. You can pack clothes for your trip, but are they the right type for the location and season? The Colts could bring any old defense. They could bring the one we saw Week 1 against the Ravens. That defense was gashed as much as a defense could be gashed. Poor tackling, a lack of containment, and huge plays created a painfully long afternoon. Bringing that defense would be like packing shorts for Antarctica. Sure, you can wear them, but good luck.

The Colts need to ensure the defense we saw against the Texans is tucked between the underwear and socks. That defense featured DeForest Buckner creating havoc. That defense saw Justin Walley round into form after a dreadful start to the season. That defense had sacks and created pressure at the line of scrimmage. That defense can compete. That defense will be able to beat the Commanders on Sunday in London, regardless of who lines up at quarterback across from them. That is the only defense that gives the Colts a chance.

Check it or stow it away in a carry-on, it doesn’t matter. Just don’t leave it behind. The Colts need the defensive mentality and intensity we saw last week. It was clean, aggressive, and in your face. That is the defense that is going to right the ship. Pull it out and iron it to get any last-minute wrinkles out. The defense needs to be sharp and ready to roll come Sunday morning.
